XXXHolic/Discworld, take 2

So, when I said at the bottom of my original Watanuki-meets-Death fic that there was going to be a sequel of sorts, this was all I really had in mind - a few hundred words worth of an epilogue type deal. Only now, it seems to be growing. It may even have developed a plot of sorts. And it looks like being at least twice as long as part one.

To all you people who sent me so much lovely feedback for the first part? Rest assured (and I mean this in the nicest possible way), this is bound to be All. Your. Fault. XD

It'll take a little while yet for me to get the expanded version finished though, so in the meantime, here's the sequel I was going to post before it started spawning.

Title: Binky
Summary: Sequel to Just Another Tuesday. I don't think any more needs to be said, do you?
Spoilers: Reference to certain facts regarding Doumeki’s childhood revealed in chapter 102.

It was one of those mornings when Watanuki was absolutely dreading getting to the shrine. True, this was a state common to the vast majority of days which required him to go anywhere near the place with the expectation of meeting a certain Doumeki Shizuka, but today was still looking to be one of the ones that really went out of its way to humiliate him. Watanuki had long since come to the understanding that Yuuko’s purpose on this earth was to make his life miserable under the unconvincing guise of it being for his own good, but wasn’t it enough that he had to cook her meals and clean her shop and fetch her disappearing rabbits and deliver messages from shinigami hailing from other worlds?

Oh no. Yuuko was entirely capable of getting creative.

There wasn’t even going to be any delaying this, because Doumeki was right there out the front, engaged in the temple-dweller’s never-ending duty of sweeping the front path. Watanuki maintained just enough faith in the universe to hope that just maybe there was still a chance he could just get past here without him saying anything like…

“That’s a horse.” Said Doumeki, and Watanuki snapped like a bowstring.

“Everyone else can see it.” Doumeki pointed out, in what could only possibly have been a deliberate attempt to ignore perfectly good sarcasm. On the other side of the road, two young children, both pointing and squealing at the animal which was currently chewing on a tuft of grass outside the gate, were dragged past the shrine by their mother with some difficulty.

Watanuki gave a heartfelt sigh. “It’s all Yuuko’s doing.” He tugged on the halter a couple of times to try to make Binky give up on the grass. Binky relented, but the moment Watanuki let the tension in the halter slacken he dived straight back down for it again. “She thinks because he likes me it should be all my job to give him some exercise. And I never even wanted a pony!” He added, aware this last bit might have made more sense given some context, but equally aware Doumeki would be the last person in the universe to notice.

Doumeki regarded the horse with the same cool expression he used on everything from Watanuki’s lunches to giant, invisible snake-spirits about to make lunch out of him. “You’re supposed to ride them. Not lead them around like a dog.”

“Of course you are! But where would I have learned to do something like that?!”

Doumeki shrugged. “It’s your horse.”

“IT IS NOT MY HORSE! What kind of crazy person even keeps a horse in the middle of the...” Inspiration struck mid-sentence. “Wait, don’t you know how to handle horses?”

“But – your grandfather had a horse.”

“Never rode it.”

“Why not?”

“You can’t ride in a girl’s kimono.”

And that there – that expression on his face and this whole situation and that sentence – just summed up every piece of evidence Watanuki would ever need to prove that Doumeki’s divine, hitsuzen-inspired purpose in this world was to drive him completely insane.

Binky!! I think you've got Doumeki's bluntness down pat. Can't wait for the rest!

Doumeki is turning out to be surprisingly cooperative to write for. And the rest looks to be going well. ^_^

Ahahaha Indeed, you CAN'T ride in a girl's kimono, Doumeki. Thank you for clearing that up XDDDDD And yes, that's a horse. You win a special prize for stating the obvious with "I have only one facial expression" face. And Watanuki? You don't happen to be liked by cats too? Because it would make the picture complete XD
Aaaaaah This is wrong on so many levels... But... but.. Binky!<3333333 on temple grounds! I think I'm in heaven... (fangirls' heaven mind you, but heaven nevertheless XD) More, I humbly beg you *_*

No cats, I'm afraid, but otherwise - yay, all that lovely enthusasim, so very encouraging ^^. More will be coming as soon as it's finished.

Ahahahaha! Doumeki is so priceless! ♥ So when will Death come reclaim Binky? XD

Well, technically they've got Binky for the whole week, so there's plenty of time yet. Rest assured, they'll find other things to worry about. *evil grin*

... I love Binky...

This is me. Stalking you. Fear me. As I am relentless in my stalking.

I can't wait for the rest. Anyone who can make me laugh this much always goes straight to the top of my 'things that are good in the world' list.

“Everyone else can see it.” Doumeki pointed out, in what could only possibly have been a deliberate attempt to ignore perfectly good sarcasm.

This line wins a cookie of some sort. For sure.

Thank you very much for putting up this part. :-D

Aw, thanks so much! *happy glow* I don't generally post bits of fic before they're done, but since this was originally going to be all there'd be to this one, it seemed to make sense to do so. ^_^

I heart your Doumeki and Watanuki. You use their characters for humor perfectly.

I like Binky's guest appearance.

Thanks! Doumeki and Watanuki are *made* for humour, so it all came pretty naturally.

And I like to think of Binky as more of a star than a guest in this (particularly seeing where the rest of the fic is going now). He may not get a speaking part, but there'd never have been a story without him.

Ehhheeeeee! XD Doumeki earns many love points for the kimono remark. <3.
