Booking for my new show are now open! (Plus: John gets reviewed for his wrestling.)

Hey- o!

My new one- man show, "Don't Swallow: A Handy Guide To Keeping Your Head Above Water (In An Ocean Filled With Shit) is about to begin! Running from July 23rd - August 8th, it's at The Blue Room Theatre in Northbridge.

Tickets can NOW be booked online at www.pacs.org.au, we'd love to see you there!

Oh... and the fansite for the Australasian Wrestling Federation carried a two- line rundown of my face- off with purple- pants- wearing wonderboy Kid Dynamite at Sydney Supanova... he had interrupted the Cosplay Competition the day before, so I climbed into the ring and challenged him to an arm- wrestle. It's the best review ever: "The announcer actually looked strong in the arms and he proved this by defeating Dynamite."

Well, I'm pleased that the Mighty Robertson Biceps are looking nice, but I mostly won because another wrestler kicked him in the head. However - yeah! That's one step closer to the championship for me!

The best thing about a hometown made up mostly of rice paddies: the scenery in bus rides back to the city involve vast horizons, open stretches of sky. Last night there was a lightning storm going on in one of the distant fields; it was such an amazing thing to watch. We had a perfect view.

It felt like we were trying to outrun it, the entire time.

current song: The Presets; I know you (on repeat)

So Placeholder died right as we moved to our current place - once I vaccumed out all the dust (*cough*) [info]trs80 [typekey.com] and I went through and tested everything to see what the problem was. Everything worked great in other machines - except the motherboard. Since Placeholder was put together in 2005, it's time for me to get another machine. I've even sourced a few parts already...

Buying off an UCCan:
Graphics - GTX280. 1GB GDDR3, 648mhz Core clock 2ghz mem clock
CPU - Core 2 E8600 (3.33ghz dual core)

The IT guy my work gets in (who I of course have made friends with) thinks he has 2GB of DDR2 RAM lying around that he is going to bring in if he finds it, which should take care of most of my RAM needs since I'm not going to be playing a lot of system-intensive games, and if I need more I can just buy some to match from Netplus.

I want to keep my case (Antec Sonata) because it has blue lights on the front of it and I like it and also I have many stickers on it <.< I will probably also get a second HDD but drives are cheap as chips nowadays; probably a SATA to match my first HDD, unless SATA have major problems when you have two of them, or something.

According to Chas, my power supply has very little chance of managing to run the graphics card I have, which means I'll need a replacement. If my case is an Antec, will I need to get an Antec power supply to ensure it fits properly, or can I get any brand PSU? Antec seem to have a reasonable range, although they jump straight from 550W to 750W.

Which just leaves the problem part in the first place, the motherboard. The UCCan I'm buying the graphics card and CPU off recommended I get an ASUS P5QL board. There are four showing on the Netplus website:
Asus P5QL-E Intel P43 DDR2 MB ExpGATE PCIE GLAN LGA775 Firewire ATX $179.00
Asus P5QL-EM Intel G43 MB DDR2 ExpGATE PCIE GLAN LGA775 HDMI ExpressGate X4500HD Video uATX $144.00
Asus P5QL-Pro Intel P43 DDR2 MB ExpGATE PCIE GLAN LGA775 ATX $169.00
Asus P5QL-SE Intel P43 DDR2 MB ExpGATE PCIE GLAN LGA775 ATX $119.00

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the boards? I mean obvs it will need to be able to fit inside my case, but other than that I have no real idea which one is best. ^^;

Uhhhhh I think that's everything? obvs I already have monitor, DVD drive, peripherals/etc.

Sometimes I look back and dislike how I reuse themes and concepts. I was looking back at my older stuff and somehow things seemed fresher...Sometimes it feels like I am a one trick pony orz.

For those who asked, I deleted the previous entry because it made some people uncomfortable, but you can still find the picture here. Sorry about that, and thanks for the comments, I really do appreciate them.

Stop reading this useless post and go forth and read awesome Dahn/Akane whoopee-making(!!!) How I love it. HOW I LOVE IT

Things I Have Learned About Cosplay Events
by harveystoat ([info]harveystoat)
at July 3rd, 2010 (05:51 pm)

I realised today - I'm going to end up emceeing fifteen cosplay shows this year. (It's fifteen if you count each day as a separate event - and don't lump the Madman National Cosplay with the standard Madman Cosplay Competition, otherwise the number comes out as six, which is much less impressive. :-))

It's been a pretty good run, so far - and I think that I may have picked up a thing or two along the way. Or, at very least, here's a list of things I try to remember.

1. Avoid talking about yourself. The job is to make the crowd love the cosplayers, if you must talk about yourself, be self- deprecating, or use it to build up the act onstage.

2. Don't make fun of the cosplayers. It's not your job, unless (as in Sydney), the people in question are four gangstas who storm onto the stage and claim to be "from Dawson's Creek! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH!"

3. Be very careful which weapons you interact with. Is that a real razor in Sweeney Todd's hand? Will that guy shoot you with a Nerf ball, or just hit you in the head with his gun? Never let anybody knock you over anywhere near the computer monitor at the corner of the stage - you will fall headfirst into it and be a little dazed for awhile.

4. Different towns need different warm- ups. Melbourne liked direct conversation, Brisbane liked a riot leader, Sydney liked a combination of the two.

5. Don't swear.

6. Always remember the effort everybody has gone to.

7. If you must take off your jacket, do it near the end - otherwise it just looks like it's hot onstage.

8. Be aware of hecklers - whether they be yelling, or in PictoChat.

9. ENERGY! ENERGY! ENERGY!

10. Always find time to dance. Everybody should dance, all the time.

11. This is something I learned from watching YouTube, remember - your job is serious, but it shouldn't appear to be. Never announce if somebody's been disqualified (it makes everybody unhappy - and how do you know?) - and if there's a problem with the sound, don't apologise for it - acknowledge it and make something else happen.

12. Thank the cosplayers.

I hope I remember that for tomorrow! :-) Should be fun - let's kick some arse, Perth!

Lately I've been overwhelmed with the urge to create stuff, which is awkward since I've hit a dry spell wrt writing. I've been talking to [info]khursten about maybe learning how to sew, though, so maybe I can channel the desire into that. SO, possibly diy skirts and dresses for me in the near future--I can roll with that.

I love the idea behind this. If only I had the accessories (or, you know, a little black dress in the first place). And these shoes inexplicably remind me of Kinomoto Sakura and her numerous magical girl outfits; it's interesting to see what the OP paired them up with. Also, how cool is this pink Gundam? (Ignore the suspiciousness of the url, the post is safe for work, I swear.)

Happy Canada Day and Handover Day, if applicable \o/!

So I felt like drawing some girls.

Please don't ask how Mukuro and Ky ended up here )

Semi-unrelated: On costume design - Okay, so your predecessor isn't known for designing practical military uniforms. But still, that doesn't mean you have to crank it up by eleven. Yes, she has a nice figure, and yes, you wanted something that shows a sense of movement, but dude, her own profile says she trips on those cables when out of battle. Is the guy in charge of your army called Roy Mustang by any chance? P.S. WTF is up with Jin's flouncy sleeves and skirt? Protection against ice magic =/= no pants
